Finding Netflix Spanish series that are truly appropriate for kids and Spanish class can feel overwhelming. Many popular shows include mature themes that just don’t work for students, especially in elementary and middle school settings.
That’s why I’ve put together this Top 10 list of the best appropriate Netflix series in Spanish. It features shows that are engaging, culturally rich, and teacher-approved. This list includes shows I’ve personally used with students, my own kids have watch, or that I suggest for appropriate Spanish series.
These Netflix Spanish shows for kids are perfect for listening practice, culture days, sub plans, Spanish Club, or family viewing, with minimal to no romance, violence, or inappropriate content. Whether you’re looking for animated adventures, music competitions, or real-world cultural documentaries, this list makes it easy to press play with confidence. Here are the best Netflix series for Spanish learners.
How to pick an appropriate TV show for Spanish class?
Choose a show that is appropriate for your student’s age group and level of Spanish comprehension. It is important to choose a show that will not be too difficult or too juvenile for your students. You want them to be challenged but still be able to understand what is going on.
A good way to gauge this is by watching an episode yourself and taking note of any words or phrases that you think would be new to your students. Here are my 10 favorite appropriate shows for Spanish class. It includes the best animated Netflix series in Spanish, Spanish Netflix telenovela style series, plus the best & most appropriate Netflix documentary series in Spanish.
- Maya y los Tres
- Koati
- Go! Vive a tu Manera
- Cielo Grande
- Street Food Latin America
- Nailed It! Mexico
- Piñata Masters
- ¡A cantar! España (Sing on Spain)
- Boca Juniors Confidencial
- Ultimate BeastMaster Mexico
Maya y los tres – Best Animated Spanish Series on Netflix
- Animated, Fantasy, Adventure
- Pre-colonial Latin America fantasy world
- 1 Season, 9 Episodes, 25–40 min
- 2021, TV-Y7
Maya & the 3 is an animated show on Netflix set in fictional pre-colonial Latin America. I have not shown it to students, but my own elementary boys enjoyed the show. They have chosen to watch the whole limited series multiple times. This is the only show on the list not originally made in Spanish, but it has rich culture for class.
Maya y los 3 would be appropriate for any level of Spanish student. But, I think upper elementary or middle school Spanish would enjoy it the most. It would work well for Middle School or an Exploratory Spanish sub plan.
If you want to try it out, I have a variety of resources for Maya & the 3

I have found that before starting a new show both watching the trailer and introducing characters in Spanish makes watching a new show a lot more enjoyable. It is especially true if a lot of characters get introduced in a short amount of time in the first episode.
If you want to introduce the characters of the show Maya y los Tres in novice Spanish, I have an editable Slideshow all ready to go. Just enter your email below and they will be sent to you.
Koati – New Spanish Netflix Series for Young Kids
- Animated, Adventure, Family
- Latin American–inspired jungle setting
- 1 Season, 13 Episodes, 11 min
- 2023, TV-Y
When looking through kids series on Netlix with the original language as Spanish, I came across a cute new gem Koati. It stars Sofía Vergara in short, super appropriate, 11 minute episodes. The Koati series is based on an animated movie from 2021 with the same name.
Official description of the Spanish Netflix series Koati: Four adorable rainforest animals and their fearless friends go on adventures, learn about nature and discover the power of friendship together.
This is the first Netflix series in Spanish that I would suggest for very young elementary Spanish. Koati could be a sub plan or as a part of a preschool Spanish, or lower elementary Spanish class.
Go! Vive a tu Manera – Best Series in Spanish on Netflix for Spanish
- Musical, Drama, Comedy
- Argentina
- 2 Seasons, 30 Episodes, 40–45 min
- 2019, TV-G
For a couple of years, I taught the cheesy show from Argentina found on Netflix Go! Vive a tu Manera. I used the show Go! starting 2nd semester of Spanish 2.
Go! is a very similar vibe to High School Musical, with high school-aged kids, a lot of singing, and a basketball team. It was hit or miss with some kids loving it and others who could not get over the cringy musical numbers.
I would be appropriate for middle-high school, but it really depends on the interest level of your students. There are 30 episodes each about 40 minutes, plus a special spin-off movie.

Cielo Grande (Secrets of Summer)
- Drama, Family
- Argentina
- 2 Seasons, 19 Episodes, 35 min
- 2022-2023, TV-Y
Series description “A remote Argentine resort revives its wakeboarding competition, drawing in Mexican athlete Steffi, who is determined to uncover a family secret.”
I had high hopes for Cielo Grande as a hopeful show to use in class. It has the same main character as Go! It is squeaky clean and you could for sure use it in school. But, honestly, it was a super cheesy young drama, think Disney Channel drama for 8-year-olds with lots of random songs as well. I had to force myself to finish it. I think it could work for upper elementary or middle school. My high schoolers would have disliked it more than Go! (The basketball in Go! made it more likable to some of my students).
Spanish Netflix Reality Shows for Spanish Class
My own kids really enjoy the kid friendly Netflix reality shows. They watch Breast master, Nailed It & more. What’s great about the reality shows, is you can typically go in any order. It’s fine to throw one in as a sub plan as well. These would be great options to suggest to students for Choice Homework or extra listening comprehension practice on their own.
These Spanish Netflix Series for Kids show up under the kids profile, so they are all safe to suggest to suggest to students to watch at home as well. *Just remind students to change the audio to Spanish & add subtitles in either language as well.*
- Street Food Latin America
- Nailed It! Mexico
- Piñata Masters
- ¡A cantar! España (Sing on Spain)
- Boca Juniors Confidencial
- Ultimate BeastMaster Mexico
Street Food Latin America – Spanish Netflix Series
- Documentary, Food, Culture
- Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Bolivia & Brazil
- 1 Season, 6 Episodes, 30–40 min
- 2020, TV-PG
Another Spanish Netflix series I personally used during the 20-21 school year when I taught on a Hybrid Block with a combined Spanish 3 & 4 class was Street Food Latin America.
With our wonky schedule, it worked that each episode is its own 30-40 minute documentary set in a different Spanish-speaking place.
There are 5 I used Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Mexico & Colombia. You can find lesson plans for those episodes here. They were a great cultural addition for High School Spanish to prepare upper-level students for the AAPPL test.
Nailed It! Mexico
- Reality TV, Cooking, Competition, Comedy
- Mexico
- 3 Seasons, 18 Episodes, 30–35 min
- 2019–2021, TV-PG
Home bakers with very limited skills attempt to recreate elaborate, professional-level desserts, often with hilarious results. The lighthearted competition celebrates creativity, humor, and perseverance, making it a fun and low-stress way for students to hear authentic Mexican Spanish while enjoying a family-friendly cooking show.
Nailed It! Mexico was created in Spanish, so it is authentic. An episode would be a perfect addition to a food unit or a Emergency High School Spanish Sub Plan.
Piñata Masters
- Reality TV, Family, Competition
- Mexico
- 1 Season, 8 Episodes, 38–48 min
- 2022, TV-G
This is a super cute show that would work well for middle school. It would go perfect with my Piñata Mini-Unit or the book La piñata de Renata.
Series description: “Seven teams compete to earn the prestigious title of piñata masters. Their piñatas must be colorful and creative in order to impress the most demanding and fickle jury, a group of picky children.”
¡A cantar! España (Sing on Spain)
- Game Show, Music, Competition
- Spain
- 1 Season, 8 Episodes, 39–42 min
- 2020, TV-PG
Sing On! Spain is a Spanish Netflix karaoke game show. The Netflix show in Spanish originally titled ¡A Cantar!, tests performers on hitting the right notes to build a jackpot. It is a fun, competitive musical challenge.
In the Spanish Netflix show, six contestants sing popular hits, aiming for vocal accuracy judged by technology to win up to €30,000. Eliminations are based on votes and scores. ¡A Cantar! España is hosted by Ricky Merino.
It’s a fast-paced, high-energy Spanish game show series on Netflix. I know my Spanish teacher friend used Sing On! Spain with her high school students. It would work well with classes who are very into music.
Boca Juniors Confidencial
- Sports Documentary
- Argentina
- 1 Season, 4 Episodes, 39-42 min
- 2018, TV-PG
Boca Juniors is one of the world’s most successful soccer clubs. Based in Buenos Aires, the club has been around since the early 1900s. This mini series gives Boca Juniors’ fans a behind-the-scenes look at the legendary club. It follows the club as it faces high expectations to defend the championship. That task is made more difficult by injuries and an uncertain contract status regarding a star player.
If you have students who are very into sports, especially soccer, this short Netflix series in Spanish would be perfect to check out. Or it would be great to suggest to students to watch on their own.
Ultimate Beastmaster: México
- Reality TV, Sports, Competition
- Mexico
- 3 Seasons, 24 Episodes, 40–45 min
- 2017–2019 TV-PG
Ultimate Beastmaster: Mexico is a Spanish-language installment of Netflix’s global obstacle course competition. It features Mexican athletes tackling “The Beast.” It is by Luis Ernesto Franco and Inés Sainz. Contestants race to become the Beastmaster and earn national pride. The show runs across multiple seasons with intense challenges over water and other structures.
My own elementary aged boys enjoy watching this show at home for fun. It is similar to American Ninja Warrior with obstacle courses. This show could be a good sub plan.
What Language & Subtitles for TV shows in Spanish class?
On Netflix, you can change the language & subtitles to Spanish if you would like. As always, do what is best for your students and situation. Here is my go-to way.
- Heritage & Upper-level classes – Spanish audio & Spanish subtitles
- Lower-level classes – Spanish audio & English subtitles
- Exploratory or Culture class – English audio (& maybe Spanish subtitles for fun)
If you are doing all Spanish, you need to stop and discuss a lot for comprehension checks. Otherwise, students will likely zone out & fall asleep.
