How many of you feel that your language skills could use some work since you spend your day using novice or intermediate-level Spanish with language learners? Or are you exhausted and just want to lay on your couch when you get home? I have the solution for you, binge-watching Netflix in Spanish! International movies or a Spanish-language show work great!
In a post on Secondary Spanish Space, I shared my original 5 Binge-worthy Netflix Shows for Spanish Teachers (Siempre Bruja, Las Chicas del Cable (Cable Girls), Ingobernable, Velvet). Since then, here are 17 more series in Spanish that I have personally watched on Netflix or would highly suggest. I usually watch these international tv shows while working out at home.
*Please note that most of these popular Spanish shows would NOT be appropriate for students and are for your personal enjoyment only. As with anything, if you are thinking of using it in class, I would recommend watching it first to see if it would work with your students and school culture. The best way to get fired it to show these bingeworthy tv shows to students.

First El refugio atómico or Billionaires’ Bunker is a brand new drama on Netflix released in fall of 2025. It’s from the creators of La Casa del Papel, one of my favorite Netflix series of al times.
Series description “In the face of an imminent global catastrophe, a group of ultra-wealthy individuals hole up in a luxurious underground bunker, but the claustrophobic environment and buried secrets fuel tension, conflict, and human drama.”
If you enjoyed, Money Heist, it’s worth checking out. But, it was just announced that the new series has been cancelled after 1 season, so don’t expect any more episiodes!
Dos tumbas

The next brand new addition is a short miniseries to get you started. Series description. “After two teenage girls mysteriously disappear from a quiet coastal town and the police close the case, a determined grandmother risks everything to investigate the truth and seek justice on her own terms.”
Just as a trigger warning this show is super dark and violent. So, don’t play this trailer around kids! If you are a fan of true crime, check out Dos Tumbas.

Respira or Breathless on Netflix is a new Spanish medical drama. It has lots of familiar faces if you are a fan of Spanish Netflix shows. Blanca Suárez from El Internado: Laguna Negra & Las Chicas el Cable stars. (Two of my all time favorite shows in Spanish!) Plus Manu Ríos (Patrick from Elite) & Najwa Nimri (Alicia Sierra from Casa del Papel) Carlos Montero is the writer, who I recognize from writing both Elite & Física o química.
Series description “Set in and around a busy public hospital in Valencia, Respira follows medical professionals as they navigate intense cases, hospital politics, and personal struggles, combining emotional character arcs with realistic medical scenarios.”
If you have watched 20+ seasons of Grey’s Anatomy like me, you should probably check out Respira. It also has a similar vibe to the show New Amsterdam, since it’s also set in a public hospital.

Spanish Netflix Series with Music
The next few Spanish Netflix series all have quite a bit of music involved. Here are a few lighter Netflix series in Spanish. Then more dark shows. Plus a couple Netflix Spanish reality shows for fun.
Rebelde

Series description “As Elite Way School starts a new term, a familiar enemy a secret society called the Lodge threatens to crash the musical hopes of the first-years.”
Rebelde is a modern spin-off of the early 2000’s classic show. I have never actually seen the original, but I enjoyed this teen musical dramedy. I was hoping it would be school appropriate, but the full boob and lots of teen drinking tanked that hope. The show is based on music, so you have to love big musical performances, like Glee.
Ritmo Salvaje

Series description “Two groups from opposite worlds walk their paths until they come face to face in a dance battle.”
I was excited to see a singer I enjoy, Greeicy, in this new dance drama. As a former dancer, I enjoyed hip-hop dancing, music, and out-there fashion. The storyline was meh, but the dance battles kept my interest.
Érase una vez… pero ya no

I was excited to see a new show starring Colombian singer Sebastián Yatra. To be honest I have never seen anything like this short, fantasy, comedy musical. There are lots of fun costumes and music, and I binged most of it on a rainy Spring Break afternoon. If you are looking for a fun escape, this show is for you. (But beware it is still mature, so do not show your students!)
The next few Spanish Netflix Series are very dramatic.

Series description: “Entrevías (Wrong Side of the Tracks) is a Spanish crime drama about a tough ex-soldier in Madrid’s tough Entrevías neighborhood. She gets entangled with local drug dealers, leading him to take violent action against the criminal element threatening his family and community. The series blends gritty crime with family drama, exploring themes of loyalty, corruption, and intergenerational conflict.
I started Entrevías when season one was released a few years ago. I enjoyed the show, but the super long episodes over a hour long felt more like a movie. I usually watch my shows in Spanish while working out & could not even finish an episode in a day. This led me to loosing interest and not finishing season 1. But since it has been so popular with many more seasons, I might need to go back & check it out again.
The next few Spanish Netflix Series are very dramatic.

I did not originally have Elite on this list since it started in 2018. I have been enjoying it since the beginning. But, they have been continuing to come out with new seasons of Elite year after year. So, it is a great Netflix Spanish series if you want a multi season binge.
Old seasons were, dare I say it, Elite! The first season cast was amazing. But, then many got too famous and moved on. Plus they are supposed to be in high school. So they have done a good job of each season adding new young students. I keep watching, but nothing will compare to the 1st seasons of Elite. There are also bonus videos of Elite short stories Carla Samuel, Guzmán Caye Rebe, or Samuel Omar, if you want something shorter.
El secreto del río

New Netflix Series in Spanish for 2025 El secreto del río. Series description “The Secret of the River follows two childhood friends, Erik and Manuel, in a small Oaxacan village. Their lives intertwine after witnessing a tragic event that becomes their shared secret, which they must confront again 20 years later.”
This is a brand new addition to my list as a Spanish series to watch on Netflix in 2025. My friend Emily Ross just texted me about this new series in Spanish. She said it is centered around muxes, a third gender recognized within the Zapotec culture of Oaxaca, Mexico. It has representation of indigenous communities of Mexico. She said it has drama, but also good feels.
El silencio

El Silencio or Muted on Netflix in a another new addition to this list. Silencio is a psychological thriller mini series, with only 6 total episodes. It also includes Manu Ríos, from both Elite & Respira.
Series description of El Silencio “After serving six years in detention for killing his parents, Sergio, a man with secrets and a troubled psyche, is released and secretly monitored by a psychiatrist who tries to uncover the truth about his past and intentions, leading to a tense psychological game.”

¿Quién mató a Sara? Was an entertaining thriller. It is pretty graphic with a lot of nudity and for sure earns its mature rating. If you like crime dramas with some mystery, this is for you. It is up there as one of the most popular Netflix originals made in another language than English.
La cocinera de Castamar (Cook of Castamar)

La cocinera de Castamar is an entertaining and dramatic historical show. This period drama reminds me of a cheesy romance novel, with all of the nakedness you would expect. If you like shows like Bridgerton, or a historical drama, check this one out.
La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) – Best Spanish Netflix Series

Series description “To carry out the biggest heist in history, a mysterious man called The Professor recruits a band of eight robbers who have a single characteristic: none of them has anything to lose. Five months of seclusion memorizing every step, every detail, every probability culminate in eleven days locked up in the Royal Mint of Spain, surrounded by police forces and with dozens of hostages in their power, to find out whether their suicide wager will lead to everything or nothing.”
Since the last ever season came out in 2021, I figured I could also include my favorite Spanish TV series ever. I have now watched this whole series multiple times. It is one of the award-winning Netflix originals from Spain. It is now one of their most popular non-English shows to date. Once again, it is nowhere near school-appropriate, but is a fun watch for teachers, with a lot more suspense and action than other shows on the list.
Money Heist Berlín

- Season 2 of Berlin has been confirmed in the works.

Series description from Netflix. “During his glory days, Berlin assembles a gang in Paris for an almost impossible heist for 44 million euros’ worth of jewels from 34 cities in one night. Roi and Cameron must stop Father Toureaux as he threatens to bungle the plan. Meanwhile, love is in the air on Paris’s streets and in the Catacombs.”
Berlin is a spin off of Money Heist. Since I LOVED Casa de Papel, I was a little disappointed with Berlin. I probably had too high of expectations for the new series. So, while it was good, Berlin was not great in my opinion.
Season 2 of Berlin has been confirmed, so I’m sure I’ll give it another shot.
La Venganza de las Juanas (The 5 Juanas)

Series description “Five women with the same birthmark set out to unravel the truth about their pasts and discover a tragic web of lies spun by a powerful politician.”
La Venganza de las Juanas was an enjoyable show for me. It was predictable and cheesy at times, but what good telenovela isn’t? I enjoyed the connected stories of the former strangers. As with many others, this earns the mature rating with nudity and violence, especially against women.

You might be questioning my taste now that I am including a trashy dating show, but it is what it is. If you like the original, why not branch out and get some Spanish authentic input from contestants from Mexico, Spain, Colombia, and more.
It is fun to see how when they take pretty much the same formula of a show to a new place, how different people react. It is pretty people in swimsuits making poor choices, which can be a nice escape from actual reality.
Soy Georgina

Series description “Join Georgina Rodríguez – mom, influencer, businesswoman, and Cristiano Ronaldo’s partner – in this emotional and in-depth portrait of her daily life.”
I enjoy reality TV following the lives of famous people, so I am Georgina, who was kind of like real housewives of Europe. This native of Spain reminds me of a more likable version of a Kardashian. Except she grew up normal and happened to meet Cristiano Ronaldo while working in high-end retail. This short and enjoyable show made me want more, and it was very appropriate.
