Last Week of Spanish Class Lesson Plans

I have multiple past blog posts about End of School Year Spanish Class Activities for your middle school or high school Spanish classes. I know the end of the school year looks VERY different for each school in your world languages department. Remember, I was always a department of one, but end of year activities as a Spanish teacher changed every single year. Here were a few variations of the last weeks of Spanish class.

  • Required cumulative final exams with a double block finals schedule.

  • Final project students turned in the last day of classes & then a final schedule where teachers worked/graded research projects & kids dropped by to get final grades/ turn in materials

  • Regular last week of school. Teachers choice to give exams at the end or not.

  • Giving students assessments that were graded on performance of proficiency level over the last week

  • A variety of end- of-year traditions – student class retreats, award day, field trips, field day, etc – some leave only a small class left

  • A short last day where 0 classes met, teachers were responsible for their homerooms, students returned Chromebooks, the admin served the kids brunch & the school tried to end on a positive note with most kids playing kickball, or watching a movie in a classroom, or older kids signing out & just leaving early.

Spanish Teacher Struggles at the End of the Year

Also, at this time of the year, the mental health of many World Language teachers and students is a mixed bag. I know the last weeks of the school year leading up to summer break come with a variety of emotions.

I asked my email list what they were struggling with right now. Some common answers are below

  • classroom management

  • motivation (both teacher & student)

  • admin

  • AP & other high stakes testing

  • what to do post AP tests &/or after seniors are done with school > try Tierra Incógnita

Last Week of Spanish Activities

I know what you all need right now is more than just a few deep breaths. This post includes a fun way to keep students in the target language at a tricky time of year. It could be a filler day or couple or days before or after a final exam. A great way to get your Spanish students to chat about future future break using their language skills at the end of their Spanish course.

We have established that what is expected and happening in each Spanish classroom varies greatly. If you have some flexibility, it is a great opportunity to continue students using their Spanish the last week of classes.

These activities all focus on the Spanish simple future tense ir + a + infinitive to discuss future summer plans in Spanish.

Este verano Find Someone Who

For many years I have had a popular Last Day of School Spanish Find someone Who or summer plans in Spanish (from TPT). You might know this people hunt/ scavenger hunt is one of my favorite games. This version focuses on future fun summer plans.

Este Verano last day of Spanish class activity from Mis Clases Locas

I personally used this last day of Spanish class worksheet in different levels of Spanish I taught. (Except Spanish 4 were all seniors who were done the last week of school for me). Since there are differentiated options, I have used different versions of this same resource for the last day of Exploratory, Spanish 1, Spanish 2 & Spanish 3.

  • Exploratory Middle School Spanish – most support with sentence starters for both speaking & writing (focus of content included voy as apart of Super 7)
  • Spanish 1 – support with sentence starters for both speaking & writing as an option – also choice of more advanced without sentence starters for more advanced
  • Spanish 2 – more advanced speaking version & writing option with word bank
  • Spanish 3 – more advanced speaking & most advanced open ended writing option

We often put the last day of school Spanish Find Someone Who worksheet on a clipboard and took it outside to enjoy the nice Iowa weather. It did not have to be the very last day of school. Usually that day was for checkout and a strange schedule without actual classes meeting. But, the Find Someone Who is a great activity that allows movement in an engaging way.

More Last Week of Spanish Lesson Plans

This year, I finally added two more last week of Spanish class activities to talk about future summer plans. These are variations on my popular conversation cards & future google slides weekend chat.

So now I have a Last Week of Spanish class bundle on TPT. It includes the 3 simple future summer plans activities below. You could mix and match them for multiple days of last week of Spanish plans for all levels and situations.

Last Week Before Summer Break Spanish Class Activity Bundle from Mis Clases Locas

NEW Last Day of Spanish Class Conversation Cards

New Future summer conversation cards in Spanish follow the same format as other Mis Clases Locas conversation cards you love. Differentiated support for those who have a hard time speaking Spanish in an activity or assessment. You can get the same future simmer cards on TPT as well.

Spanish Future tense Conversation Cards from Mis Clases Locas
  • ✅ Five versions of task cards for basic Spanish conversation using the future tense using ir + a
  •  Large questions are perfect for posting for student discussion about este verano. Post around the school or outside for a walk & talk. Or have students walk and write down their answers on a piece of paper. Or post the larger Spanish future questions on a whiteboard & have students answer them as they enter the room as a class starter.
  •  Small conversation cards cards are a perfect way to support small groups or partner Spanish conversation about future summer plans.
  •  Plus, the differentiated conversation cards include the option of support of the sentence starter in the yo form. Support 504, IEPs or those with anxiety with sentence starters.
  • ✅ Differentiated writing options to extend the activity beyond speaking into writing

Pro tip if you want to use the cards in multiple sections or for years to come. Print different sets of the cards on different colored paper. This way when you find a card on the floor, you know where it belongs. Also laminate the cards for durability.

Mix it up! Play quiz, quiz, pass trading conversation cards

  • Give each student one question card.
  • All students partner up to take turns asking and answering each others questions.
  • Then students trade cards, so they have a new question to ask the next person.
  • Students partner up again & take turns asking and answering each others questions.
  • Students trade cards again, so they have a new question to ask the next person.
  • Repeat as long as students are engaged.

See Spanish Question Cards for Interpersonal for more ides to mix up using these task cards.

NEW Last Week of Spanish Digital Weekend Chat/ Sub Plan

Another new resource I added was a Google Slides Weekend Chat with a variety of activities to discuss future summer plans. This is a great daily routine for the last weeks of summer to practice ir + a future. You can get the same digital last week future summer slides on TPT as well.

Option 1 – Spread out Future Summer Weekend Chat

This is a great daily routine for the last weeks of summer to practice ir + a future.

Project and post a task slide each day to start class.

Or project the 15 chat slides. This could be a move to each side of the room chat. Or use the questions speed date style. Students move and talk to a new person for each question. Challenge students to answer in a complete sentence.

Option 2 – Digital Future Summer Spanish Sub Plan

Another one of my favorite ways to use these Google Slides is as a digital no prep sub plan. Post digital future summer chat slides on Google Classroom or your LMS. I posted similar pre Spring break slides while we were hybrid teaching. Both students in class and at home could complete the activities in the slides.

Students can work alone or in partners to complete the 30 slides digitally, writing answers in the slides. It includes reading, writing & speaking practice about Spanish future summer plans. I had them work alone for reading & writing and with a partner for speaking. Depending on the level of your students, this whole slideshow could take 1-2 days as a sub plan.

Example Last Week of Spanish Class 1 using all 3 resources!

Get the Last Week of Spanish class bundle. A few day mini unit to talk about future summer plans if you have some extra time after finishing your major units.

  • Then use the printed simple future Spanish conversation cards for a supported small group activity to chat about future summer plans. There are differentiated options, so you can pick those with or without support of sentence starters. Students could work in small groups to chat. Then they could use teh included writing extension to show what they learned about their group’s plans.
  • If you need an assessment do a quick simultaneous speaking assessment in small groups using conversation cards as needed to support speaking. Or use the included writing prompts from any of the activities for a writing assessment.

Example Last Days of Spanish Class 2 – Sub Plan Style

If you need an emergency sub plan or one or two days. (Because maybe you want to attend your own child’s field day, preschool concert, get in a last minute appointment, or you are caught in IEP meetings or interviewing future candidates). Or these are independent activities students can do while others are testing. Or these are activities students can do on their own while you are getting your life together & grading all of their late work or projects.

  • Digital Sub Plan – Post digital future summer chat slides on Google Classroom or your LMS. I posted similar pre Spring break slides while we were hybrid teaching.
  • Paper No teacher Needed Plan – If you have turned Chromebooks in, use the summer plans Find Someoene Who. Without teacher support, assign students to interview a partner using the worksheet. They can do the speaking in an interview form to cause less commotion if needed. Then both pairs write about their partner in Spanish on the back.

For all of these options & more get the Last Week of Spanish bundle

There are so many ways to mix up these last week of Spanish activities to practice the Spanish simple future. If you only have one day, you can pick one activity for each different class you teach, based on their personality.

Want fully paper & no tech? Open with large question cards posted around the room. Then do the paper Find Someone Who.

Or give students the option! Choose your own activity. Some can do the digital slides & others do paper conversation cards. It’s all practicing the same thing, so it’s OK to have differentiated choices.
