Best Thanksgiving Songs in Spanish

“Gracias a la Vida” by ELENYI

This iconic song “Gracias a la Vida” is originally from Violeta Parra. I found this version from sisters duo Elenyi that my students loved in a past Hispanic Heritage Month Music Bracket.

“Gracias a la Vida” is a heartfelt expression of gratitude for life’s blessings. Its poignant lyrics and beautiful melody make it an excellent choice for teaching themes of appreciation and reflection. Discussing the lyrics can prompt students to think about what they are thankful for, fostering deeper conversations.

Activity Idea: After listening to the song, have students write their Thankful Turkey hands. Here they can express gratitude for the people and things in their lives.

“Agradecido” – Don Omar

Don Omar’s newer song Agradecido is a perfect blend of modern vibes and a message of thankfulness. Its catchy rhythm can help students connect with contemporary Spanish music while exploring themes of gratitude.

During my 1st years of teaching, Puerto Rican Don Omar was a student favorite. (Hello teaching Danza Kuduro to the entire student body so they could do it in the stands at a home volleyball game in 2012:).

I used to have to review his videos hard, but this new Christian song is great for Spanish class.

Activity Idea: Challenge students to create their verses of gratitude in Spanish, inspired by Don Omar’s style.

“Gracias un Millón” – Río Roma

Gracias un Millón is a great Spanish Thanksgiving song from Mexican pop duo Río Roma. I was introduced to this song by my fellow Iowan & friend John Sifert. John does a great job choosing songs for class that teach a deeper message. This song is a tribute to gratitude for unconditional help during times of need.

Activity Idea: After listening to the song, have students write their own “thank you” letters, inspired by the song, expressing gratitude for the people and things in their lives. This could be in Spanish or English depending on the recipient of the letter and level of students.

“Canto a la vida” by Fonseca

Canto a la vida is another positive song that expresses gratitude that would work well for Spanish class Thanksgiving. Colombian pop singer Fonseca mixes in traditional Colombian folk elements in Canto a la vida.

“Por eso es que hoy le canto a la vida, por los recuerdos que no se olvidan, que vivan las memorias… que vivan las historias, que hoy viven en las fotografías.”

Activity Idea: Have students do a gratitude themed free write about things they are thankful for.

“Gracias” by Ozuna

Dominican/Puerto Rican Ozuna has been a favorite of mine for a while. He has been in many of my music resources, especially Afro-Latino Music. In this song Ozuna is signing and touring in Isreal. It does have religious images & language if that matters in your situation.

Activity Idea: After discussing the song’s themes, have students create a gratitude wall in the classroom where they can post notes about what they’re thankful for.
