How to Teach the Future Tense in Spanish Class
I know that in many curriculums and textbooks, Ir a + Infinitive Verb future tense is introduced in Spanish 1. I actually introduce “va a” in my High-Frequency Verb Unit to Start Spanish 1 lesson plans. Then for the first years of class that is the form of the future we most commonly use to talk about our upcoming weekend or future break. You can see my Mis Clases Locas Curriculum for Spanish 1-4 to get a feel of how I have structured my year in the past.
Quite often most Spanish curriculums wait to introduce the Spanish simple future tense until about Spanish 3 or even Spanish 4. I am not exactly sure why, since the future verb form is a much easier form to learn than the Preterite & Imperfect.
Yes there are irregular verbs in el futuro, but the verb conjugation is super simple. Besides irregfular verbs, you use the entire infinitive form of the verb & add a consistant ending .
This post will have ideas for reviewing future plans using the future tense in Spanish class. If you need a print and go pdf worksheet or a future Spanish worksheet, you are in the right place.
