What is Experiencia Colombia?
My dear Iowa Spanish teacher friends, Meg Fandel Vernon & Craig of Spanish Cuentos are putting together the best PD I have ever heard of. Experiencia Colombia is a 5-day retreat for Spanish teachers focused on wellness, professional development, and linguistic and cultural immersion in COLOMBIA.
Gain renewed professional creativity, and community, and upgraded teaching skills. Return renewed, well-slept, and submerged in the Spanish language after learning from local experts right in the mountains of small-town Colombia. Reconnect you to the reasons you became a teacher: love of language, appreciation of diversity, travel, and making a difference in your classroom and beyond.

Experiencia Colombia is a hybrid 5-day retreat for Spanish teachers. It focuses on wellness, superb professional development, and linguistic and cultural immersion beyond the sit-and-get training we currently have access to. Most importantly, it aims to support teacher wellness in and out of the classroom.
Participants will take away renewed professional creativity, a positive community ready to support them in their classroom, and fortified skills in teaching for acquisition. Prepare to return renewed, well-slept, and submerged in the Spanish language. This all while supporting the local economy and learning from local experts right in the mountains surrounding Bochalema, Colombia. This opportunity will reconnect you to the reasons you became a teacher. It will include love of language, appreciation of diversity, travel, and making a difference in your classroom and beyond.
Experiencia Colombia provides daily guided teacher training led by experts featuring catered teaching topics to participants. There will be 3 traditional Colombian meals a day with access to drinks and snacks 24-7. The afternoons are dedicated to cultural learning. You get exclusive access to culture courses like cooking and dancing. There is direct access to the organizers, trainers, local experts, and an on-call doctor just in case. Plus, opportunities to snooze in a hammock or take a stroll through the town plaza. …oh and, of course, coffee from the farm down the road!
